The Brinson-Laney Scholarship was established in 2013. It was established by Mr. and Mrs. James Randall Brinson who are long time participants in the music ministry at First United Methodist Church.
James Brinson was born on September 21, 1924 in Egypt, Georgia. Patricia Laney Brinson was born on November 2, 1928 in Chipley, Florida. They were married on April 23, 1950 at First United Methodist Church in Port Saint Joe, Florida. After living in Columbia, South Carolina where they were active members of the Shandon United Methodist Church Choir, they moved to Pensacola, Florida in 1958.
Jim and Pat Brinson were members of the First United Methodist Church Choir for over 50 years. In addition to the music ministry, Pat has served as Administrative Board President, has been an active member of United Methodist Women, served on the Pastor-Parish Committee and the Council of Education. Jim has served for many years on the Administrative Board and has been active with United Methodist Men. They both are long time members of the New Life Sunday School Class.
Due to their mutual love of music and appreciation for the music ministry at First United Methodist Church, it is their wish that this scholarship will support youth who are actively pursuing a career in music, especially for students who desire to work in church music.
